LETSIBOGO GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL

 Magnet Music Project

This project was launched after identifying a need to establish the Music Projects in other schools within the Province especially in the townships. a music kit that comprised of a piano, recorders, melodicas, violins and a guitar was provided in 2003 to kick start the programme after a series of meetings to pave the way especially in the township schools.

We embraced the project whose primary objective, as the name suggest, was to attract other schools in the area to come and do music lessons at our school. We piloted the project with three primary schools, selecting about five learners per school and one High school with about 6 learners selected per school.

All the grade 8 learners in 2004 became part of this endeavour. The project offered two facets of music; the theory part offered to the whole class and some specialised instruments to selected learners. Those learners who showed skill and talent were enrolled with Unisa for a Level certificate.

To date we collaborate with six schools in the area and the project within our school has extended right up to Grade 12. The school choir has improved in its performance over the last years and gets invited to most District functions as a result of the wealth of talent embedded therein. We  have won major musical competitions like Segarona and the Music Eistedford.

During 2007 and 2008, we hosted three international school choirs from United States of America, United Kingdom and Australia. We had the opportunity to display and showcase the talent we have in abundance at our school as far as Music is concerned. We were proud to have been nominated by the Head Office to do the honours and we lived up to the expectations and the wishes of the organisers.

The concerts, held at Bapedi Hall gave our school the limelight we so much looked forward to and publiciy we so much desreve. The occassions were attended by some District officials amongst them the District Director, Mrs. Margaret Sandlana and other prominent Head Office personnel that included the GDE spokesperson Kate Bapela.

There is just so much we have achieved on the magnet music project and it is growing from strength to strength except the challenge of the provision of resources that we believe will receive attention as we continue to plough back to the community and the Province in general.
