LETSIBOGO GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL

 Sports and Culture

"A healthy mind in a healthy body"

Letsibogo Girls' High School offers to its learners an opportunity to take part in various sporting activities as part of the extra mural curriculum.

Athletics

During summer of every year, as per the sporting calender of the Gauteng Department of Education under the auspicies of Johannesburg West District - where the school belongs, our learners take part in the athletics competitions, starting at school level with the inter class competitions, from which a school final team is selected. This year 10 girls won medals in the district  competitions and three of them had to form part of the district team to compete against other districts, this, a great achievement indeed seeing that they only get a chance to take part in such competitions at school level only.

Volley ball.

The area volley ball team formed by a number of schools in Zones 1 to 3, also gives our learners to show their talent and capabilities. We have a team of under 15's and under 17's that has taken part very recently in the district competitions as well as the Fiat tournament in July 2008. To this end, a volleyball gear and balls were won as a result of taking part in this competition and as an incentive for the promotion of the involvement of the girl learners in sport. A yearly fixture gets drawn by the District Sports Committee and gets sent to schools for participation purposes.

Netball.

A yearly fixture is drawn every year by the District Sports Committee to get the schools to participate in this sporting code as it is popular in schools and the participation by the schools very much satisfactory. Our school does take part and excels in this sporting code as a result of being a girls-only school I guess. The teams that we have at the school are the Under 15's, Under 17' and an Open team and they perform very excellently in the Districts competitions.

Public Speaking

Letsibogo Girls' High School boast a number of trophies won in the Area, District, Provincial and National Public Speaking competitions. We won the National Champions in 2008 with the National Productivity Institute. In 2006, we became the National runners up having lost to an afluent Private school in the  Kwa Zulu Natal province. We boast very powerful speakers in the learners' ranks and they really put the school on the map when it comes to the public speaking competitions.

In July this year, our school participated in the Provincial competitions and one of our learners, Ntombifuthi Vilakazi received an award as the best speaker in  the competitions held at Magaliesburg.

The nurturing of other  learners through the regular public speaking sessions in classes, plays a major role in ensuring the success of this endeavou, and we believe that through the dedication of their English educator, Mrs. MW Mavimbela, they are bound to reach very high levels of expectations.
